Wales v Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands became members of FIFA in July 1998 and of UEFA in April 1990 and is the fourth smallest of any UEFA country; only Liechtenstein, San Marino and Gibraltar are smaller.
The Fótbóltssamband Føroya (FSF) was formed in 1979. Pior to membership of FIFA and UEFA, the Faroese national team played occasional matches against representative sides from Shetland, Orkney and Iceland and also won the gold medal at the Island Games of 1989 and 1991.
The Faroe Islands' first international match was a 0-1 defeat in a friendly against Iceland in August 1988.
Wales record v the Faroe Islands
Wales' first meeting with the Faroe Islands was during the qualifying campaign for the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
Ian Rush scored his first international hat-trick in the match at the National Stadium - the first Welshman to score a hat-trick since John Toshack in 1979. Mark Hughes won his 50th international cap during the match in Toftir.
